Julie Durkin Marty, Line Loop Curated by Robert and Maura Geils 350 Bleeker, New York, NY February 4th to March 30th, 2025
350 Bleeker, New York, NY – February 4th, 2025 – Julie Durkin Marty invites viewers into an immersive experience with Line Loop, her new exhibition at 350 Bleecker. Curated by Robert and Maura Geils, Line Loop marks a bold evolution in Durkin Marty’s dynamic exploration of form, movement, and color, while addressing the urgent need for environmental reflection and collective responsibility.
Durkin Marty’s artistic practice is a rich and vibrant exploration of the interconnectivity of life on Earth, rooted in a deep concern for the planet’s future. Her work is driven by a love of painting that manifests as both a celebration of womanhood and an ode to the sea floor. The collection draws on her devotion to the painterly process—the work is a dynamic, living performance of swirling gestures, vibrant, dense layers, and a saturation of color that invites the viewer to experience texture, movement, and depth.
“I want the viewer to feel that they are entering a new world, experience the paintings as a dialogue between movement, energy, and the cyclical nature of the world we inhabit,” says Durkin Marty.
In Line Loop, Durkin Marty’s vision comes to life through a mix of handcrafted paints, pouring, splashing, sanding, and smearing techniques. Her works are not simply visual; they are tactile, layering paint and space in ways that draw the viewer into a sensorial experience. The paintings seem to pulse with life, shifting and radiating light from within, transforming depending on the viewer’s perspective and position.
The exhibition is deeply influenced by the ocean floor and the interconnectivity of all living things. Global warming and environmental issues are a central thematic focus, as Durkin Marty grapples with humanity’s impact on the planet. The work calls for reflection on our relationship with the Earth, urging compassion and collective action toward sustainability.
“The paintings themselves are an invitation to pause, reflect, and act. I want them to spark dialogue,” Durkin Marty explains. “In a time of environmental crisis, it’s crucial to reconnect with the Earth. This work is a meditation on that interconnection.”
The show, curated by Robert and Maura Geils, emphasizes a unique narrative of continuity, change, and the persistence of life across time and space. Seeking to bring attention to the richness of Durkin Marty’s work, highlighting the dynamic fluidity of her gesture and the thematic urgency embedded in her compositions.
The exhibition will be on display from February 4th to March 30th, 2025, at 350 Bleecker, located in the West Village.
